No place like home

Well, I guess it's about time to make our big news known. And big news it is, indeed. Remember how we talked about living in Seattle for at least five years? Yeah, well it seems our proverbial (space-) ship has come in a little earlier than expected. John, the aspiring rocket scientist, has accepted a very humble position with Boeing working as an engineer on the International Space Station Program, Life Support Systems group. Is he excited? Only if by excited you mean bouncing off the walls and talking a hundred miles a minute to anyone who will listen about the spacey derivation of every street name in South Houston. "Oh, Gemini, yeah, that's blah blah blah." "You see that building right there, that's where they used to house the blah blah blah." He has said a number of times that he feels like we are moving to a giant theme park.
Hog heaven, baby. Hog heaven.

Congrats to our favorite savvy and driven space nerd. We love you!

So here we are looking for homes in Houston, the armpit of the great state of Texas. How did it get this notorious nickname, you ask? We'll let you know as summer draws near. Our short sojourn in Seattle will be over in just 1 1/2 short months, and then we'll be back in Texas where we admittedly belong. I have a feeling we'll be missing the rain and moderate temperatures of Seattle when we go.

Our little cowgirl is easing into her roots just fine, don't you think?

What a cute little boy you have! I mean, it must be a little boy because good Mormon parents would never let their daughter out of the house so immodestly dressed.

Also, Happy Birthday to Lucy! Since your parents have obviously forgotten that it is your very first birthday I thought I would be the first to wish a Happy Birthday. To add insult to injury they bought a cake for your dad instead of you. Come over to our house when you get back to Seattle and we'll give you a proper birthday party.

Tsk Tsk, such negligent parents. It should be against the law.

Rod is joking of course. Although I have no idea why he would joke about someones birthday seeing as his is coming up so soon...

The picture of Lucy is SO ADORABLE. I would love to get a copy of it. We miss little Lu.

It is a dream come true. Seriously.

As for Lucy's birthday, while I might have gotten a cake, we bought Lucy a house for her B-Day.

Then we went to the Kemah Bordwalk and celebrated eating crawfish as we watched the moon rise over the water. It was beautiful. Lucy was entertained after we left the restaurant by the Ferris Wheels, the swinging pirate ships, and the carosel. The Lights lit up the South Texas sky and twinkled on Galaveston Bay. 10 Minutes later, we were back in our part of town.

I really think that this is one of the best parts of Houston. The middleschool where Lucy will go to school is "Space Center Intermediate School." Thats the american dream right there.

I realized today that there is literally a walking path from our new home to the Boeing building.

I love that you are realizing a lifelong dream so early in your young family. Keep dreaming, I know you'll keep achieving! Just look at what you've done with the armpit of Texas already. A huge theme park indeed! Can't wait to visit you there.

That cookie cake is awesome! I wish I could say I was surprised at John's incredible good fortune, but ever since he met you, Mamie, he's been lousy with it. Welcome back to TX and congrats on closing the deal on your new home! You guys are really making us look bad ;)
